It Becomes Normal

From The Past: December 30, 2007

Mom returned to church this morning for the first time since earlier this summer. She is feeling much better and she looks great!

This afternoon, we watched a few episodes of The Waltons and de-cluttered some areas. Recently, I have the desire to rid myself of unneeded things. For example, I found insurance books from a company we haven’t had for a year! It amazes me that I never noticed them sitting right in front of me every day. I got used to them being in the same old place and somehow became blind to them.

I feel the same way with the Halloween decorations; every year I miss something when putting the stuff back into storage because I have gotten so used to seeing that ghost magnet on the fridge, it becomes normal.

Right before Christmas, I donated a ton of books I had read over the years and knew I wouldn’t get around to reading again. I told myself oh, this book was so good I’ll read it again someday, but when I really let myself think about the situation, I knew I would never get around to those books again. I have too many others still in a stack left to read. Fortunately, my stack of books to read has gotten smaller; mainly because I haven’t allowed myself to shop for tons of used books. I’m trying to wait until I have finished reading this stack down a lot further.
