Swiss Steak Recipe

Today on the Tami Dunn YouTube channel, I posted a video of me making Swiss Steak just like my Mom used to do. This is hearty, comfort food at its best.

What you’ll need:

4 (or more) cubed steaks

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Flour (to bread your cubed steaks – optional)

Green pepper

Onion

1 large can of crushed tomatoes

Salt & pepper (optional)

Bread your steaks in flour and then fry them in a skillet using about ½ inch of vegetable oil.

Salt & pepper them as they are frying.

Drain the steaks on paper towels to absorb some of the grease.

While the steaks are frying, slice your green pepper and onion. I like mine in larger strips, but you can cut them as big or small as you like.

*If you are using the same skillet for the entire meal, you will have to wait until the steaks have finished cooking, drain the grease and then cook your onions and green pepper. If you are using an electric skillet or another pan, you can go ahead and fry your peppers and onions. Add some of the crushed tomatoes in with this mixture to avoid anything sticking.

Once the steaks are cooked and drained, add them to the pan of peppers and onions and pour the remainder of crushed tomatoes over the top of the steaks. At this point, everything is cooked and you only need to leave it in the pan long enough to heat the tomatoes.

Mom would pair this meal with mashed potatoes and green beans. I hope you enjoy it!
