Christmas Movies

The Past: November 19. 2003

This week’s TV Guide is out and it has a sneak peak of upcoming holiday movies and TV specials. Here’s what I’d like to watch:

Nov. 22nd – Eloise at Christmastime – ABC

Nov. 30th – Gingerbread Challenge – The Food Network

Dec. 3rd – Christmas in Rockefeller Center – NBC

Those are the ones I have to catch on TV. We own most of the holiday movies that I love and always watch. I think my favorite has to be National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

But I also LOVE A Christmas Story, White Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, A Garfield Christmas, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Home Alone and last but certainly not least Pee-wee’s Christmas Special. I hope I’m not leaving any out! If anyone sees A Garfield Christmas for sale; please let me know. My copy was recorded from TV back around 1987 when it first aired and I’m afraid that it won’t last much longer. The kids and I get the biggest kick out of it!

On New Year’s Eve we’ll be staying home and watching The Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci-Fi Network. I think we’ve done that for the past three years at least. I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. I guess when they stop airing it; I’ll have to buy the episodes on DVD 😉

Currently (2019): It’s amusing to read the Christmas movies that I mentioned in 2003. I still enjoy all of them, however there are some that I would like to add to my favorites list including Christmas with the Kranks, The Bells of St, Mary’s, Meet Me in St. Louis, Home Alone 2, The Bishop’s Wife, ELF, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Love Actually, 1999 version of A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street (both versions), and Holiday Inn.

I could name other movies that we have seen such as The Holiday, Four Christmases, Holiday Affair, The Family Stone, It’s A Wonderful Life and The Polar Express. We like these movies, but they don’t make our favorites list.

Are there any Christmas movies that are a must see for you or your family that I didn’t name?

  1. Have you seen Remember the Night? It stars Barbara Stanwyk & Fred MacMurray. It’s a cute movie. It also has Sterling Holloway in a minor supporting role. He was the voice of Winnie the Pooh & the Cheshire Cat among other Disney characters. His voice is VERY recognizable. I immediately found his voice to be familiar before I knew who he was.
I also thought MacMurray bore a bit of a facial resemblance to Benedict Cumberbatch.

  2. Do you watch any of the Christmas movies that air on Hallmark channel or Lifetime? Most are bland & not very good, but they manage to air a good one every now & then.
    A few past good ones:
    • Nine Lives of Christmas (stars Brandon Routh – former Superman)
    • 12 Men of Christmas (stars Kristen Chenoweth in a twist on Pride & Prejudice)
    • 12 Dates of Christmas (starring Amy Smart & Mark-Paul Gosselaar)
