From The Past: May 18, 2009
A few days ago my parents had some electrical work done in one of their upstairs rooms. This room never had plaster covering the studs, so they always used it as an attic/storage space.
Above this attic room is an opening which leads to another attic. There is no way to get to this opening without the aid of a ladder.
Since this is the case, I wonder how pieces of my childhood made it up that far. I know I never had a ladder or climbed a ladder to even see this section of attic which is probably 12 feet up.
As the electrical guy worked in this way-up attic space, he said, “Hey there’s something up here!” I was at the top of the ladder when he said this and immediately recognized the item he pulled from the dusty floor.
It was my Spin-A-Roo from the 80’s:
It still works perfectly and we have all played with it.
I thought I had hit the jackpot with the Spin-A-Roo until the guy shined his light once again on the floor and said, “Hey, there’s something up here with Smurfs on it.”
I couldn’t remember what the item might be until he pulled it off the floor. It was my Smurf Mead Organizer complete with Donkey Kong Stickers from 1982!
I still think it is totally awesome!
I used it for school, but when the school year was over and no paperwork was left, I could sit it upright on the floor like you see in the picture below and use it for a Barbie house:
My Barbie lived in the Dream House, but this could be a house where other Barbie’s lived.
Finding long-lost childhood items is so cool!
I wonder what I could find if I went up there myself! I’m sure there is more …
What treasures!!!! I love it!
