Thou Shall Not Steal

From The Past: November 30, 2008

Kevin and I switched our vehicles in the driveway before the holiday; I am guessing Tuesday night. We use my car because it is more comfortable for Ashley to ride in.

Tonight, when we arrived home from Wal-Mart and switched the vehicles back (because Kevin leaves first in the mornings), he discovered that his Insignia 21W x 4 In-Dash CD Deck with HD Radio Tuner and Detachable Faceplate had been stolen.

Kevin is meticulous about locking his truck because years and years ago he had a stereo stolen. He tells everyone to always lock their car doors. Once I told him that someone we know does not lock her car doors. His response was, “She hasn’t had anything bad happen yet.” I conveyed his message and I believe she tries to remember now. His truck was locked. I have no idea how they got in because no windows were broken.

I called the police while we were standing by the truck and a guy was outside smoking next door. He heard my phone call and told me that my neighbor’s stereo was stolen Friday night and there was another stereo stolen a few houses up from us. So, when the police officer came, he wrote down everyone’s information. The guy a few houses up actually had a license plate number of a very suspicions car, so I am wondering if the police will check this lead out.

The person who stole our stereo also took the owner’s manual to our truck. This is odd.

Kevin’s truck now:

They left the entire dash unit on the seat:

They were nice enough to leave our insurance card, but took our registration card because it was in the owner’s manual.

Kevin bought that stereo with his birthday money and some of our own money back in June. The entire incident just ticks me off. We keep all of our paperwork, but can find nothing on the stereo. It would have been a great help to the police had we been able to give a serial number. Unfortunately, we now believe this information may have been in the owner’s manual.

We have lived here twelve years and nothing like this has ever happened. We feel very violated.

UPDATE 2024: We never found out who stole the stereo. Nothing happened. But, looking back, I truly believe our neighbor at that time stole the stereo (the one who was standing outside that I mentioned earlier). The house next door was a rental so people were always moving in and out. This particular person had a drug problem and had even spent time in some sort of facility for it. I believe HE stole the stereo and used the money for drugs. As I said, we had lived there for many, many years and never had an issue.

Before this happened, we had taken Ashley to the movie theatre. Back to November 30, 2008:

Kevin and I took Ashley to the Regal Cinema:

We watched the movie Twilight, ate popcorn, and drank large cups of Coke Zero.
