From The Past: September 19, 2008
I love this picture. I realize to anyone who is not in my family, this photo almost certainly looks very ordinary. To me, it is a reminder of things I can never recapture.
In 1982 Hardee’s gave out the Smurf glasses seen on our kitchen table.
The table was there before mom and dad decided to go Walton style and bring in a picnic table.
At this time, the cabinets were still their original wood color.
Jennifer and I wore our Panama Jack shirts.
If I had to guess, I would say this photo was taken around 1984 because I look to be about twelve years old. (I was always big for my age.)
I am also guessing this was Thanksgiving and not Christmas. Mom had made dressing, so it was a major holiday; however, since there are no Christmas decorations, no Christmas napkins or tablecloth, I believe it was Thanksgiving.
They had the table readied for six people. Since there are only four of us, I know my Aunt Patt was there, but I wonder who else was invited.
The clock looks as though it is 3:20. This would be around the normal time for our Thanksgiving dinners.
We are wearing long-sleeved clothes, so it must have been cool outside.
I’m sure tea was in the pitcher. Mom still has that pitcher, but not the Smurf glasses.
I think that wallpaper was on the walls when we moved in, but I don’t believe the bottom half of the walls were yellow. I think Dad painted them yellow.
