September 2008 Movies We Watched

From The Past: September 3, 2008

Here it is the third day of September and I forgot to give you the list of movies I watched in August.

8-5-08 Mr. Brooks – This movie was so fascinating; I didn’t want it to end. It was about a man who loves to kill, but has kept himself from doing so for two years when the urge suddenly strikes him so hard that he cannot contain himself. That is all I want to reveal in case you rent it. I would definitely watch this one again!

8-13-08 Bring It On – Kirsten Dunst stars in this movie about a cheerleading team that finds out its routines were all stolen from another team. Dunst’s character has to find a way to keep her team together and create a new routine all within a very tight schedule.

8-15-08 National Treasure: Book of Secrets – If you enjoyed the first National Treasure movie, I believe you will also enjoy this second installment. There are cryptic puzzles, an important book, vital papers and so much more. All of the actors and actresses did a terrific job. I was particularly pleased to see Helen Mirren. She has immense acting ability and is beautiful as well!

8-16-08 The Bucket List – I cannot say enough about the acting abilities of Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in this film. Actually, they have always been remarkable in everything I have seen, but these must have been especially hard rolls to portray. These two men decide to make a “Bucket List”, a list of things they want to do before they kick the bucket. There are many funny lines in this movie, but one of my favorites was spoken by Edward Cole (played by Nicholson) while in the hospital. He said, “I believe more people die from visitors than diseases.”

8-17-08 Monster House – I had high expectations for this animated movie about a house that eats people. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to what I had hoped. I’m glad I didn’t pay to see this in the theatre. Kevin thought it was cute, but wouldn’t want to see it again.

8-20-08 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – This movie was made after the Harry Potter book. If you haven’t read the series, I can tell you first hand that they are phenomenal. I can’t imagine anyone not liking these books. The movie made some adjustments from the book, but that was okay; the movie was still wonderful.

8-22-08 Steel Magnolias – This is one of my very favorite movies. I probably watch it every other month! I believe Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Julia Roberts, and Daryl Hannah did their best-ever acting in this movie. Even though I have seen it many times over, it still made me want to cry watching it this time.

8-26-08 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – Made after the second Harry Potter book, this movie delivers suspense and intense moments, but it also has some funny scenes. I love seeing the faces Ron Weasley, one of the main characters, makes. Even in the first movie, he was excellent. Moaning Myrtle, another character, is also one of my favorites; her voice cracks me up!

8-28-08 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – This movie follows the third in the Harry Potter book series. In this movie we meet several new magical creatures and new characters. I believe this movie had more funny moments than the previous two. It lacked a bit of action, although I didn’t really miss it.

Since we don’t own the next two Harry Potter movies, we will have to rent them soon. We have seen each one in the theatre, but I am trying to watch them all again since Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released July 17, 2009.
