From The Past: May 14, 2008
We are currently experiencing problems with Carpenter Bees. These bees are attracted to unpainted wood and can do a lot of damage. The males don’t sting, however the females do; especially when trying to protect their nests. This stinging will become a big concern in a few weeks when we open the pool since the bee chose the stairs of our deck for its home.
This is the damage we have on one of the steps leading up to our deck:
We will buy Sevin Dust and puff it into the hole because this was recommended to us by an expert/relative of ours. It is also recommended by the University of Kentucky Department of Entomology. I cannot ask for better advice than that!
What is amazing to me is the perfect holes they make:
