From The Past: May 13, 2008
These are the last of the photos I took at the cemetery on Saturday.
Someone put these roses in the angel’s hand:
We had never seen this statue of a little boy holding an umbrella:
This is a closer look:
You can imagine him splashing through puddles.
When some people think of a cemetery, all they can think of is death. In some cemetery’s I have visited, I can see the reasoning behind this. However, the Lexington Cemetery is alive.
It is a cemetery and people are buried there, however it is park-like and there are so many things living here. All you have to do is look around to see the squirrels and chipmunks scampering, the ducks waddling, turtles relaxing in the sun, and fish devouring bread crumbs. There are also 200 species of trees, gorgeous herbaceous borders, and beautiful flower gardens at the right time of year.
I cannot think of a better place I would want my loved one when the time came. It is truly beautiful.
