From The Past: April 6, 2008
I have wanted to post about a trash problem for some time now, but I have avoided it because it sounds as if I am always moaning about something. I can’t help it though. I have to say something because this is an issue that disturbs me.
A short walk down from one of our middle schools is a Dairy Queen. Many middle school kids are dropped off by their parents at this Dairy Queen in the morning. This way, the kids can grab something to eat or drink and then walk the rest of the way to school.
The problem is that these kids are throwing their trash everywhere; specifically in this ditch:
This is what it looks like upon closer inspection:
They also let it fly through the air and it ends up here:
And here:
Since this land is not owned by Dairy Queen and it is not on school grounds, I don’t believe either place is responsible for maintaining it and they shouldn’t have to. I know trash comes from other sources and lands where it wants. We occasionally have an odd piece of trash land in our yard and I have to take care of it, however I know the middle school kids are responsible for this mess. No other kids walk in large groups along this sidewalk from Dairy Queen to the school.
They have absolutely no respect for the land and it’s discouraging.
