Christmas Eve

From The Past: December 24, 2005

I enjoy tins whether they are big, small, or oddly shaped – I take pleasure in having them. The problem is I have no extra space and they DO take up lots of space. I have given away many pretty tins filled with goodies like Chex Mix, Bourbon Balls, Peanut Butter Roll, Peanut Butter Fudge, Christmas Fudge; the list goes on. I never expect their return either: the tin is part of the gift.

Below are some tins that I have managed to hold onto:

For me, nothing can be quite as enjoyable as sitting in the dark starring at the Christmas tree. The colorful lights make me happy and give me a cozy feeling. That may sound corny to some, but it’s the truth.

The kids opened their presents and stocking stuffers from Kevin and me tonight. They don’t “believe” if you get my drift and they never have, so they have always opened their gifts from us on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is reserved for gifts from Nene and Papaw.

My parents were gracious to let us use their house tonight for the festivities. Since they have a dining room, this made things much easier for us. All we had to do was bring the food.

Currently (2021): I am posting this early because I’m afraid I’ll be too tired to post tonight.

Years ago when my mom was still here, we would eat Christmas dinner on Christmas Day at their house (our current house). For that reason, Kevin and I served “picky foods” such as Buffalo Chicken Dip with Tostitos Scoops, Little Smokies, a Charcuterie platter filled with different cheeses and summer sausage, sausage balls, Chex Mix, fudge, a cheese ball, Oreo Balls and so many other delightful foods at our house on Christmas Eve.

Now that mom is gone, we are the ones in charge of dinner. The only people who truly enjoy the picky foods are me, Kevin and Andrew. Christina is vegetarian so she didn’t eat much of anything when we served those things and Ashley doesn’t enjoy many of the items I mentioned.

This is why tonight we are having Christmas dinner. Basically it’s the same stuff we have at Thanksgiving. Kevin did make a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie for dessert (Ashley’s request).

We will eat dinner and then open presents. By the time everyone leaves, I will be too tired to think about a blog post 😉

Andrew and Christina enjoy having Christmas Eve here so they can stay at home on Christmas Day and relax. Andrew doesn’t get a lot of time off work and he would prefer to be at home, which I totally understand.

Whatever you are doing, I hope you are happy and have an enjoyable day 🙂

  1. Christmas is so magical. Even if it brings up sorrow and pain for some of us…somehow that magical feeling still makes its way into our hearts (at least it does for me). Part of what brings me joy during the holidays is watching you shop, prepare, and decorate…your excitement is contagious 🙂 That is the best gift I could ever want. I’ll be thinking of y’all this evening. Happy Happy Christmas to you and your family.

  2. Merry Christmas to you and your family. My sister has come for Christmas the last couple of years and leaves on Christmas day. We do Christmas dinner in Christmas Eve but still open presesnts Christmas morning before she leaves. So I totally understand. I took the week off from work, but have to go back the day after Christmas. Have a great Christmas with your family.
