Dirty Cups

I have a friend who doesn’t drink coffee at all, however her coworkers drink it all day, every day. Today when she went in to work, her boss asked her to wash a sink full of dishes. She looked in the sink and noticed they were all coffee cups and spoons.

She commented to her boss that she didn’t mind washing the dishes this once, but since she didn’t drink coffee, she didn’t think she should have to do them again.

Her boos replied, “Well, we’re all going to take turns.”

My friend was flabbergasted. Why should she have to wash even one cup when she isn’t the one using them? I agree with her, but I have no idea how she should handle the situation when it arises again.

What would you say? Do you think she should have to wash cups when she never drinks from them?

  1. I think if you’re part of the office, you should partake in the office duties whether you use the dishes or not. It’s teamwork! As an aside, I would always bring my own dishes over use the communal office ones. 🙂

  2. I think she should tell her boss that everyone should be responsible to wash their own cups, mugs, plates, utensils, etc…..and then she should go look for another job where women are respected and valued because her boss most probably chose her to do the chores because he is a woman and he doesn’t have respect.

  3. I read the post about this boss not wanting to pay for coffee first.

Aside from being cheap, I would say he is lazy. He (she) should tell his employees to clean up their own messes, this is a workplace, not a frat house. And if they don’t take it up with them individually.

He is too lazy to do this and would rather make everyone responsible.

Your friend needs a new job.
