Sometimes I forget Kevin and I weren’t raised listening to the same music. I’m referring to the preadolescence years. Kevin’s mom loved country music. She listened to Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and many others. Although he wasn’t a country music singer, she also had a fondness for Elvis.
My parents, on the other hand, had eclectic tastes. My dad loved everything from Black Sabbath to Bread to Simon and Garfunkel. My mom enjoyed some country, but she mainly enjoyed 50’s and 60’s music. She had an extensive collection of 45-records. I would listen to them for hours on end after school, so I developed a taste for the same music.
Kevin and I have started watching The Vicar of Dibley. The episode we watched last night was filmed in November of 1994 and included the song, Love Is All Around. Here is the clip: https://youtu.be/1QSpAsxIkBw?t=42
What came as a complete surprise to me was Kevin thought this was a made-up song for the movie, Love Actually which was released in November 2003. See the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciAsltEpCkw
Mouth agape, I had to explain to him and then play the video where the song was actually recorded by The Troggs in October 1967. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO6glz0wpmo
He had NO idea!
This just goes to show, you can never know everything about a person.
