From The Past: August 19, 2005

Both of my kids totally crack me up from time to time. With Andrew, this is normally accomplished through his funny personality. With Ashley, however, it is through her writing.

Yesterday, she brought home a math worksheet which had already been checked by the teacher. I say this because, had I checked the paper, this funniness would not have occurred.

The question on the worksheet was:

Suppose someone was trying to estimate how many cubes were in an object. What advice would you give that person?

Her answer:

“Do the best you can and that is the best you can do.”

In red pen her teacher wrote, “This is not how you estimate.”

I agree completely with the teacher, but her answer had me laughing aloud! She is in fourth grade and already trying to fancy-talk her way out of things. Too funny!
