Laundry: Then & Now

From The Past: April 6, 2005

Have you tried the new Cold Water Tide?

I went to their website and got a FREE SAMPLE of the liquid version. I liked it so much, I bought the big box of the powder.

I have to admit I have a fear of using liquid detergents. I think it is because I grew up using the powder, but also because I’m afraid the liquid will stain my clothes. You know, these liquids aren’t clear; they are always a dark blue color that’s sure to stain a white shirt. Right?

I was talking with my neighbor about this and apparently, I am behind the times. She uses liquid detergent and liquid fabric softener! I still use dryer sheets. But this is my personality. I do not like change at all. I get totally frustrated when I’m looking for my favorite package of maxi pads in Wal-Mart and just when I think that they have stopped carrying my brand, I spot the new package with the new and improved writing.

You would think companies would realize their consumers are used to the same dependable packaging on deodorant and maxi pads and we don’t want the new and improved. We want to get in the store, grab it, and get back out as quickly as possible without having to hunt the product down!

Currently (2021): When we bought a new washing machine several years ago, I made the switch to Pods. I honestly would have no issue using powder, but I will admit that Pods are quicker and easier.

For years, I exclusively bought Tide Pods, but I am currently buying Gain Flings. I believe they have a stronger scent. Since I don’t want to spend extra money on “scent boosters”, I buy the strongest smelling cleaner available.

I do still use classic dryer sheets though. I don’t see that changing any time soon.
