Second Degree Burns

Yesterday, while lighting a burn pile on his property, my sister’s husband, Jon, was injured. He put his cigarette lighter to gasoline. The fumes from the gasoline were so powerful, they exploded and burned the skin on his arm along with his facial hair.

He went to our local hospital, but they said he needed to see a specialist. You would think the University of Kentucky would have a burn unit, but they don’t. They drove all the way to Cincinnati where he was assessed. His arm was badly swollen which worried the doctors, so they admitted him. They wanted to make certain that the swelling would go down. They said he had second degree burns.

Jennifer felt terrible leaving him in the hospital alone, but because of COVID-19, she was not allowed in the room with him. As a matter of fact, Jon had to be tested for COVID-19. (His test was negative.)

This morning, my sister and niece, drove back to Cincinnati to bring Jon home. I haven’t spoken to Jennifer today because she has been so busy and she is exhausted. At least I know that Jon is back at home. He will be off work for two weeks and I’m sure he will have to return to Cincinnati for a follow-up appointment. Once I find out any other news, I will let you know.

Below is the picture that Jennifer texted me right after they arrived at our local hospital.
