From The Past: October 29, 2004
Yesterday afternoon I heard something fluttering in the fireplace. I muted the television to get a better listen, but didn’t hear anything. I blamed it on the wind. It was windy after all.
Jump to just a few minutes ago. I am out back with Guido waiting for him to use the bathroom when I hear something bang on the back door. It kind of freaked me out because no one is home but me. A few minutes later, there was an even bigger bang. I walked up to the door with Guido and there sat our cat, Church. I figured he just wanted out so I turned around and continued my walk with Guido. When I came inside, Church was at the front door. Looking closer, I saw that he had cornered a little bird.
I don’t know why, but this is about the fifth bird that we have been graced with since living here. Now I don’t mind looking at them in their cages at Pet Smart or way up in the trees, but I do not like them up close and in my house!
I called the only person that I knew I could count on to come immediately: my dad. I called him and he just laughed. He said, “Can’t you just throw a towel over him and take him outside?” Uh, no dad, I cannot do that! I think I would scream the entire time! Anyway, dad came, put his gloves on, grabbed the bird, and set him free. Whew! I don’t need this kind of excitement! Lord, please keep your birds outside!
