A Matter of Pride

Andrew came over this morning to review some foods. It’s always a fun time when we can get him over here. I haven’t discussed this at all on my YouTube channel, but Andrew lost his job of at least 8 years during the summer because of COVID. He was devastated and depressed to say the least.

Before COVID started, he had been on a weight loss journey. He had lost a lot of weight by keeping to a KETO diet. Once he lost his job and was home all the time, all he thought about was eating, thus gaining it all back. I think depression affects everyone differently and eating was an outlet for Andrew.

For several months Andrew applied for jobs. He would get an interview and think it was going somewhere only to wait around for no job offer. It had gotten to the point where I suggested he get two part-time jobs. I think many people overlook this option. There are part-time positions available everywhere if you truly want to work. Two part-time positions are better than no position at all.

Truth be told, Andrew was making more money on unemployment than he was when he worked, but Andrew takes pride in himself. It didn’t make him feel good to stay at home and pocket a check when he wasn’t working, so as soon as an opportunity presented itself, he took it.

He is now in a new position and making more money than he did at his previous job. You know what though, if this position hadn’t been available, Andrew would have worked two jobs.

He and Christina are working towards being debt-free. They don’t have fancy cars or buy expensive clothes, but they take pride in taking care of themselves and that’s something to be proud of.

*He has lost 20 pounds since starting this new position.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Andrews job Tami but so happy to hear he has a new one. I think this Covid thing has hit us all so hard. I know we are struggling like we’ve never struggled before. My husband never lost work but he did get demoted and it really affected his pride too and his paycheck. You can tell Andrew is a great guy and you all raised him right. Sending my love & prayers to you all and hoping we all get through this thing soon. 🙏

  2. What’s Andrew’s new job? I’m so happy to hear he was able to find something stable relatively quickly. I hope it’s something he enjoys–and if not that he looks for something he enjoys for the future. If he feels comfortable, would love to hear him talk about it and his diet, glad he’s trying to get healthy, though I think he went a little extreme last time. Finding a good balance will probably help make it more sustainable.

  3. Congratulations to Andrew on landing a new position! These can be weird and wonderful times all-at-once. Everyone has been stretched personally this year and hearing great news is always welcomed! I can identify 100% with the impact of all that is transpiring this year on my low-carb eating plan. Andrew is in good company, lol! What is awesome though, is once you’ve had success dropping weight through keto, or low-carb, you know how to do it. It’s proven by your own success; therefore, there is no big question mark like “ugh, will I even lose any weight eating this way.” I am happy he has a proven plan, that I have a proven plan. Now weight changes aren’t as daunting as they once were! And that’s a good thing! Happy Fall, Y’all, from Anita in Northern Garrard County. 🙂
