I Got A Rock

From The Past: October 1, 2004

We have officially decorated for Halloween. The pumpkins are sitting everywhere along with skeletons, bats, spiders, and ghosts. It’s all in good fun and my kids love it!

I have always felt very strongly that Halloween is what you make of it. I know that many church people disagree and fear that devils and demons are being worshiped, but I can tell you that I love Halloween and have never met up with any bad boogies on this night.

I enjoy walking with Andrew and Ashley as they trick-or-treat. I love seeing the looks on their faces when they get home and dump that big bag of candy out on the table. It’s always much more than they imagined – or needed.

Along with the decorations come the books. I would guess that I have twenty Halloween books and that’s quite a lot! All throughout October if we want something quick to read, we have plenty to choose from.

The same thing goes for movies. I will sort the Halloween ones out shortly. Ashley and I started our Halloween movie watching a few days ago. We have already watched all of Stephen King’s Rose Red which is about six hours long and another day we watched The Shining. She covers her eyes on the really bad parts, but she’s not afraid of anything and hasn’t had a sleepless night yet. A few weeks ago, we watched It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown but we will watch this one over and over again. I just love hearing Charlie Brown say, “I got a rock!”

  1. I agree with you on Halloween. I am a Christian and so many people judge me for decorating for and loving Halloween. But it’s never been about evil to me. It reminds me of a simpler time, the 1970s when we could go trick or treating and this world wasn’t so bad as it is now. I see nothing wrong with it if you don’t look at it in a evil way. It brings back such special memories for me as a child. I always loved scary movies especially John Carpenters 1978 version of Halloween. I do watch the one that has the sexual scenes taken out though . Hope you guys have a Happy Halloween Tami.🎃 🍂🎃👻🍁🎃
