From The Past: July 30, 2004
We went to the library and rented three DVDs. (They are always free to check out at the library.) One of these was Mary Reilly. We thought it was a new movie and were stunned to find out that it was made in 1996! Boy, are we behind!!!
The movie was about Mary Reilly who was the maid to Dr. Jekyll. She was witness to many strange goings on even though she wasn’t aware of the fact. Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde was played by John Malkovich. He was perfect for this role having a sinister way about him anyway. Julia Roberts was Mary Reilly. I thought she was soft enough to depict this woman’s personality very well. It was a dark movie, very suspenseful and different enough to keep it interesting.
The second movie we watched was Daddy Day Care with Eddie Murphy. Now I know that the critics hated this movie, but I enjoyed it. It was clean and light. There were enough funny moments to keep me watching and it came out in 2003! A fairly new one 😉
The third movie was from 1950 and was called Cheaper by the Dozen. It was exceptionally clean and very interesting. Old movies like that keep my attention. I always wish that things could be as clean as they were then.
