Mother/Daughter Banquet

From The Past: May 8, 2004

Yesterday was interesting. I went on a field trip with Ashley’s class to the Thoroughbred Center in Lexington. We saw a play entitled Stone Soup and Dragon Dumplings. It was a cute play and all of the kids enjoyed it. The interesting part for me was riding on a school bus after all these years. I had wanted to sit in the front, but instead got placed in the very back seat. It was bumpy, but we made it.

After the play we rode back to Winchester and stopped at College Park and ate lunch. The kids played on the playground for a few hours. The only bad thing was the heat. I can actually see red between the hairs on my head where I got too much sun. It never occurred to me that I might need sunscreen. By the time we got back to the school everyone was sweaty, red, and dying for a drink. Knowing that I had a banquet to attend later that night, when I got home, I started over from scratch. I took my make-up off, shaved my legs, showered, and redid everything.

Since this Sunday is Mother’s Day, our church had a mother/daughter banquet. My mom, Ashley and I all went. The church looked beautiful! When we walked in, the sanctuary had been transformed to look like the front yard of a house. The theme was “Lighting My Path” which is based on Thomas Kincade and his paintings. For those of you who don’t know, he is known as “The Painter of Light” and his paintings are truly beautiful. We had a nice dinner and some great conversation with the other people at our table.
