From The Past: May 2, 2004
Last night we watched Big Fish. This is a movie that is worth watching at least once. The story was interesting and different and there was some beautiful scenery throughout the entire thing. I believe with any Tim Burton film you can expect to see some excellent backdrops.
A MUST SEE is Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie. This is the funniest thing that I have seen in a long time. Rent this and you’ll be in for a night filled with laughter. There are four different comedians that entertain you for over an hour and a half. Don’t miss this one!
When you hear a movie mentioned over and over on television at the Academy Awards show and how great it was, it just makes you want to see it. For this reason, Kevin and I watched Lost in Translation. I have to say right here that Bill Murray was nominated for best actor in a leading role. This movie was also nominated for its directing, best original screenplay, and best picture. So, what do I know?
Let me tell you what I know. I know that somebody got drunk and watched this movie and then nominated it for a bunch of awards. I also know that this is THE WORST movie Kevin and I have ever watched together. Yes, people it was THAT bad. There was no story as far as I could tell. The scenes seemed to crawl along. At one point, Kevin and I had a good laugh as we both discovered that we were counting down the minutes left! It’s pretty sad when you can’t wait for it to be over. The only reason we watched it all is because we paid money to rent it. Sometimes you just can’t trust The Academy. The only good thing about this movie is that it wasn’t over two hours!
Currently (2020): I am now wondering, sixteen years later, if I would feel the same about Lost In Translation. Sometimes, it takes different life experiences and more maturity to fully understand a movie.
