Currently (2020): Does anyone else have a thing for lamps? I love unique lamps and especially vintage lamps. Whenever I watch a TV show or movie, not only am I paying attention to the characters; I am also paying close attention to the décor including the lamps.
Just because it’s unique doesn’t mean I will like it though. I have seen some downright ugly lamps that are begging to be put in a yard sale.
The lamp below belonged to my grandfather. It was in our attic the entire time I was growing up because the cord was bad. When we bought our house from my dad, he left it in the attic. I asked Kevin if he could rewire it. I should have known that he would be able to get the job done. In 2013, the lamp was given new life.
You can watch Kevin rewire it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=094QACE84BM
This is a close-up of the picture in the center:
The next two lamps were bought at local antique shops. They were inexpensive and all we had to do was choose new shades and finials for the top. What amazes me to this day is that the white lamp on the left has the exact same picture as the one above that came from our attic.
Here is a close-up of the picture on the red lamp:
The next one looks plainer in the picture than it is in reality. It wasn’t expensive and it wasn’t antique, but it does go with the room. We found it at Garden Ridge of all places. The store is now called At Home, but it will always be Garden Ridge to me. They have an excellent selection of lamps, shades and finials. This is where we found the shades for the antique lamps above. Anyway, this lamp has a light purple hue to it which doesn’t come across in the picture, but is very pretty in person.
The last lamp is one that we refer to as “the monkey lamp”.
It isn’t an antique lamp, but it was a tad expensive. We bought it almost twenty years ago at Kirkland’s. I am so glad that I bought it because, in my opinion, it fits in perfectly with this house and it’s very unique.
I am curious, does anyone else love lamps or have a special one that you would describe to me?
