I cannot use any names in this post, but I want to document what is currently happening for future reference. This is one of those things that you won’t hear about in my vlogs.
There is an 18-year-old female in my life who means a lot to me. At one time, she was working two jobs while attending high school. One of the two jobs was temporary, but she currently works one job and attends school until she graduates in a few months.
She has never been one to spend her money frivolously, so for over a year now, her funds have been growing in her savings account. One day, she realized that she had a little over $1000 in the bank which was a huge shock because she had never had that much money before. When she told her mom how much she had saved, her mom warned her, “Don’t tell your dad and if he asks you and don’t ever give him any money.” (Her mom knows the kind of person he is.)
A little time passed and I’m not sure how it happened, but her mom checked her account and the girl only had $80 to her name. When her mom asked her what happened, the girl told her, “Dad needed the money, but he said he would pay me back on the 4th (of March) but, he hasn’t called and I haven’t heard anything from him.”
Her mom called the girl’s dad (her ex-husband) and asked, “What are you doing borrowing money from your daughter? You told her that you would pay her back on the 4th and now it’s the 9th and she hasn’t heard from you, so what’s the deal?”
The dad hung up and called his daughter screaming at her, “I don’t appreciate you telling your mom OUR business and trying to make me look bad in front of her. I’ll get you your money. I’ll go to the finance company and take out a loan, but you will get it.”
Well, he says that he went to the finance company (which I doubt) and they wouldn’t give him a loan. He then said to his daughter, “I guess I’ll have to sell my truck just to get you your money.” He was really trying hard to make her feel sorry for him.
It will never happen. This man has no intention of selling his truck or anything else in order to pay his daughter back. I find the whole situation disgusting.
This same man would pick a stray animal off the road and give it to his daughters one week for Christmas and then take it away a few weeks later. He wouldn’t give them prescription medicine when they were sick because he didn’t believe in it. It’s ironic that these days, he stays medicated morning, noon and night (read into that what you will – you are probably right).
I just feel sorry for the 18-year-old in this situation. She really wanted to believe in her dad. She wanted to believe that her mom was wrong about him and that he was a changed man. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but I hope she never makes the same mistake again.
My heart goes out to her. Not just because she is out the money, but also because it’s so horrible to be used by someone you should be able to rely on and trust.
