From The Past: December 16, 2003
What an ugly day it is outside! It’s dark and dreary and raining! Everything is gray. The only things that liven it up are all of the Christmas lights. As I’ve said, we have colored lights, but the white lights are very pretty also. Out of probably thirty houses on our street, five have lights; and that’s stretching it. I would think that more people would put lights out especially those with young children. Then again, I don’t remember mom and dad decorating outdoors when I was little. It could be because the house is so big; then again it was probably because they worked. Being a stay-at-home mom gives me an advantage. I can be here and make sure that everything gets done. If I worked outside the home, I think I would be too tired to worry about lights. I would say as we get older, we’ll feel that way anyway. As long as the tree is beautiful inside, who cares if there are lights on the outside? They just make it exceptionally pretty on these dreary evenings. What will we do when January comes?!
Currently (2019): It’s so odd how the past coincides with the present. Today it has rained all day long and been incredibly dreary. When I wrote the blog post above, we were living in a one-level house and putting lights outside wasn’t too hard. Now, we are living in the house where I mentioned mom and dad never had lights outside. They may have had a string one year around the front door, but they never decorated to the extent that our neighbors across the street have decorated. The houses are too tall and it would be a huge undertaking. As it is, the neighbor used a bucket truck to put the lights on his chimneys and roof.
In case you don’t watch the vlogs on my YouTube channel, this is our neighbor’s house:
