Blood Canticle

From The Past: November 7, 2003

I finished Blood Canticle last night and I have to say that it was exceptional! This being Anne Rice’s last of the vampire series, I was ready to be let down in the end. I was ready for her to take some easy way out – make me mad or make me cry; she did neither. The series ended straightforward and dignified, just as it began. If she were to change her mind, she could write more, if not, everything is okay as it ended here. I have no burning questions like I thought I would, only a sense of peace about where Lestat was when the book ended.

I still believe that Anne Rice will write Catholic fiction. She said that she was going to do something different and that type of writing would be somewhat different. I say somewhat because she has intertwined so much religion in her books already, but to stay on that subject and that subject alone; would be different. I go to her website quite often to see if anything new has been revealed, but nine times out of ten, there is no news. I, like everyone else, am very excited to see what the next phase of her life will involve. If it has anything to do with writing, I will be there to read it.
