Haven’t Changed My Mind

Currently (2019): It’s ironic that the same subject of the post below from 2003, was the subject of a few recent vlogs on my YouTube channel. There are some subjects that I haven’t changed my mind on in all these years.

From The Past: October 23, 2003: This little cat comes to our house every day. For a few days we fed her (we believe it to be a her) and then realized that she was getting food elsewhere when she missed coming by for a whole day. She is a beautiful, loving, friendly cat. If we had seen her as a kitten, we probably would have taken her to the vet and had her fixed and de-clawed and then kept her inside with Church. Now it is too late. She has been wild for far too long and would be miserable inside. I worry though about the upcoming winter weather. Will she be able to survive outside?

This is a picture of her on our pool cover about a week ago.

Why is it that cat owners feel that they can let their cats roam the neighborhood? If they had dogs they wouldn’t let them run free, so why is it okay for cats? How can you say that you love an animal if you would let it roam free and risk it getting injured or even killed? How is that morally right? I used to have a friend who would say, “I won’t let a cat go to the bathroom in my house!” I say to that, why not? You buy a litter box and you clean it out. If you keep it clean, it doesn’t stink. That’s the right thing to do. The wrong thing to do is to let it pee and poop all in the neighbor’s flower beds.

We have a neighbor right now who lets her two dogs out front to roam free. It reminds me of the movie The Burbs. Just like the dog in that movie, this neighbor has trained her dogs to poop in everyone else’s yard but their own. She said to me one day, “Why shouldn’t I let my dogs run free when there are all of these cats running all over the neighborhood?” I wanted to yell so badly, “Because there’s a LEASH LAW!” It’s really too bad that there isn’t a law concerning cats. Then again, even if there was, nothing would be done about them. The dog warden in this town is a big joke. I’ve heard that he just sits back and collects his check and never really does any “catching”. The last time I called him he was of no use at all. Oh well, this wasn’t meant to be a gripe session. I’m just worried about this little cat 🙂

  1. Tami, I have watched your channel a long time, sent you food to try and even cards and gifts in the past , I fell in love with your sweet family upon watching your videos . I found we had so much in common, from our age, to our children and a lot of other things but I was upset at your vlog with the kitten I will admit. I rescue animals and spend most of my time taking care of their needs above my own I must admit, so I think that’s why I got so upset at that poor little kitten screaming on your porch. I do agree with you 100% that people should take care of their own animals and keep them inside where they are safe. But that is never going to happen in this world where most people only care about themselves and not poor defenseless animals anymore . I see you love your cat and dog and treat them well and even pet the cat you see on your walks so I see you do care . I’m sorry I just could not have left that kitten crying at the door no matter what anyone else thinks! I would have taken it to a local shelter at least so that it would have been fed and had a place to sleep. I understand your concern with the fleas because I spend a lot of money and time making sure the animals I rescue don’t have fleas or bring them inside my home . So I do understand your point but as I said before I do believe that the few of us that are morally good people have an obligation to help an animal when we see they needs us! It just broke my heart when you closed that door. But like you said you would do it again if need be. I want to understand that but I’m afraid I never will. All I ask is that if it happens again could you please not show it on your vlog . I know it is your vlog and you can do as you please but it was so hard to watch , at least for me anyway. 😢💔And I love watching you and your family. Hope you have a Happy Halloween! 🎃Take care.

    1. I totally agree with you Shelia. I’ve rescued many cats (with fleas and ticks ) and could not leave any animal to suffer. To assume people like me who let their cats out into my garden ( I have an area in the garden he uses for a toilet, and we keep that tidy and clean ) don’t care or love thier cats is so wrong, my ‘boy ‘ is our world and couldn’t be more loved. Some dog owners let their dogs foul the pavment and parks, how many people have stepped in that and dragged it through your house. 😕

  2. Please forgive my earlier post, I have to learn not to put my two cents in whenever I see something that upsets me. It was not my place to judge what you did or did not do Tami. God did not make us all alike for a reason, lol. I know you are a sweetheart and I’m sure down in your heart you did want to help that kitten . I do see your point too. I just had to come back on and apologize because I didn’t mean to sound so mean or judemental. You have a great day! 😊
