From The Past: September 27, 2003
For the past two weeks Kevin has been sick. About a month ago, I filled a prescription for amoxicillin, but never took the pills. We both thought that if he took those meds, he would get better. He also bought some over the counter medicine for coughing. Thursday evening, 10 days later, he took his last amoxicillin pill and he still wasn’t any better. I insisted he visit to the doctor. He didn’t want to, but I think he was tired of being sick too.
Friday afternoon: He told the P.A. that he had been taking my medicine to no avail. She said that everyone did that, they shouldn’t, but they did. She thought that he may have an allergy to something such as mold, but she wanted to take a chest x-ray just to be sure.
Well, the x-ray came back and the radiologist thought that they were dealing with an old man because it looked so bad. The P.A. informed her that he is only 34 years old and they made sure that they in fact had the correct x-ray. Once it was confirmed to be Kevin’s x-ray, they determined that he had walking pneumonia in both lungs. She said that she was shocked because he was sitting there looking just fine and he hadn’t sounded too awfully bad. They gave him a shot of something in his hip; something “as thick as honey“, she said. She wrote prescriptions for erythromycin – 500 mg; the highest dosage and ambid – which is supposed to clear out his lungs.
He has to go back to the doctor on Monday and have another chest x-ray. I do pray that he is better. I worry about him so much. He is such a selfless person, but now is the time for him to care about himself and for me to take care of him and not worry about anything else. He’ll be needing lots of love 🙂
