Currently (2019): Gavin came over to visit tonight while his sister had a dance recital. (He watched her performance during an earlier practice, so he wasn’t missing anything). Kevin had a giant stuffed Minecraft spider and a Ghast that he had never removed from the package.
Since Gavin is into Minecraft, he gave the stuffed animals to Gavin. We decided to play hide-and-seek with them. Gavin loves to find anything, so this was right up his alley. I taught him what “you’re getting hot” or “you’re burning up” and “you’re getting cold” or “you’re freezing” means. He really liked that; especially when I would say “this is a cold room”. Then he would know that neither the spider or the Ghast was hidden in that particular room.
Several times he called out to me as, “Mom”. He would quickly correct himself and say, “I mean, Nanny”. Then, he said it again, “Mom”.
He asked, “Why do I keep saying that?”
“I don’t know”. I replied.
To which he answered himself, “I guess it’s because I love you so much.”
I have never felt my heart swell so big! He is my Little Angel.
The Past: June 1, 2003
I was looking through the TV Guide to see what all was coming on this week when I saw that Fantasy Island comes on TV Land every weeknight. I remember growing up that I loved watching fantasy Island and The Love Boat. I wrote it down on my weekly TV schedule to watch on Wednesday night since nothing else is coming on, but I wonder if I will enjoy it like I did so long ago.
I’ve tried time and time again to watch shows that I enjoyed as a child and they just don’t make me laugh or hold my attention. Most of them seem almost goofy. I know I’ll step on some toes here but I’ll name a few anyway and if you still enjoy these shows then I’m sorry.
Goofy Shows:
Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three’s Company, The Cosby Show, The Dukes of Hazard, A Different World, Gilligan’s Island, ALF, Charles In Charge, and Growing Pains. These are just a few that come to mind. There are certain episodes that I still enjoy, but for the most part I guess I have grown out of them.
What’s funny though, is that the cartoons I grew up on are still as great as ever like: The Jetsons, The Flintstones, The Smurfs, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, He Man, The Super Friends, Muppet Babies, Scooby Doo, The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show, Beetlejuice, Fat Albert, and Garfield & Friends. And who could forget Schoolhouse Rock! I still sing those songs: “Lolly, lolly, lolly, get your adverbs here”! Those were great! Does anyone remember the “you are what you eat from your head down to your feet” commercials? I wish those still came on or that they sold a tape of them. I would love to share them with my kids! I wonder if they would think they were corny?
Was reading your older post and I agree , I loved the older shows but some I just can’t watch anymore but I will never grow out of Scooby Doo or the cartoons I loved as a child. Sometimes I browse through ebay just to look at old stuff from my childhood like toys and dishes and so on. It makes me feel so good. I’ve even thought about buying some of it like the Smurf glasses they sold at Hardees with meals years ago. I love the way that stuff brings back such happy memories for me. 😊
I loved those Smurf glasses. We had some when I was young.
