Podcasts

Currently (2019): Many years ago, Kevin introduced me to the Bob & Sheri radio show and I haven’t stopped listening since. They make a great team. They discuss, “food, pets and the song Jolene”. That’s a running joke between them, but it’s actually true. They also talk about current events, TV, movies, music, science, their personal lives and more. They are very interesting and have kept me entertained for years.

I used to listen to the radio for hours on end to hear their show in between songs and commercials. Then the day came when I started listening online. There were no commercial breaks and it was an easy format to use. These days, I listen to the podcast on my phone. There are commercials, but thankfully I can fast forward past them. It feels like the Hello Fresh commercials are ten minutes long.

I’m wondering if different podcasts are required to have commercials for a certain length of time. I listen to another podcast that does Hello Fresh commercials and they aren’t near as long. Maybe the bigger the show, the longer the commercials. I have no idea how that works, but there is nothing worse than being stuck in the shower and having to listen to an entire commercial. First world problems.

We actually met Bob & Sheri when they came to Lexington in March 2006. They were on a book tour for Sheri’s new book, “Be Happy or I’ll Scream!” She has written two books and they are both very funny and tell stories from her life and experiences. Her other book is called, “Hello, My Name Is Mommy” in case you are interested.

Ashley 2006
This is me (pre weight loss) & Ashley with Bob & Sheri. March 2006.

There were so many subjects that Bob & Sheri couldn’t discuss on the air, they created a new podcast called The Oddcast. If they run out of time on their regular show or want to broach a subject that is not safe for the airwaves, they discuss it on The Oddcast.

One day on The Oddcast, Sheri interviewed a woman named Sarah Delia who had a podcast of her own called She Says. Her podcast is about a sexual assault survivor. There are only about ten episodes, but they are very interesting.

From there, my daughter Ashley, had me listen to one called Dr. Death. It was a horrifying tale of a sick neurosurgeon. I found the Dirty John podcast by myself and then BRAVO made a show out of it. I couldn’t watch the show for some reason. He creeped me out so much, that I just didn’t want to watch it unfold after listening to the story.

I am enjoying another podcast right now called, Best Case Worst Case. Whereas Dr. Death and Dirty John had a start and end point, Best Case Worst Case is new every Friday. The only light-hearted show that I listen to is called Connecting with Walt. It’s about Walt Disney, his life and legacy.

If you are interested in any of these podcasts, you can listen on your computer. You don’t have to use your phone. This is the website that I recommend: https://wondery.com/

They have lots of podcasts to choose from. Subjects include true crime, personal growth, entertainment, history, etc. There is something for everyone. They are great to listen to while you clean the house or take a shower. I have also listened while trimming my rose bushes in the yard.

If you have any suggestions for a great podcast, please let me know!

Spring Fever

Wow! The sun actually came out yesterday and it is supposed to do the same today. It might even get to 50 degrees! My tulips are just beginning to sprout out front. It’s a wonder that they make it through the cool weather. Spring is almost here and I am excited. I have many plans for the backyard. I want to plant many flowers, tomatoes, hot banana peppers, and maybe some cucumber. I can hardly wait to open the pool and buy some new floats. Ashley learned to swim last year, so I also want to see how much she remembers. I know I have almost three more months to go before its warm enough for that though.
